Firstly, I suppose I should start this week’s column with congratulations to Nigel Farage, who has won his seat in Clacton, against himself, pretty much.
A low turnout in the unnecessary by-election, called by Nigel Farage, in which he stood against a range of independent candidates but not a single mainstream party or politician, cost the British taxpayer £250,000. On the evening of Polling Day, he celebrated with the self-named “Farage Fest”, in which at least a dozen middle-aged women danced in celebration of Nigel’s continued mandate. But not to worry, GB News were there to capture every cringe-inducing moment of it.
Of course, now that Mr Farage is a Member of Parliament again, the independent inquiry into the £5,000,000 gift will recommence, which could eventually result in a by-election in Claton, should he be found guilty. Thus, proving this whole affair to have been nothing more than a vanity election.
In other news, Elon Musk joked about acquiring the United Kingdom. But we all know what happened the last time he flirted with the idea of a takeover.

He did what every politician should do if there is a question over ethics or new direction. He sought a new mandate. He increased his vote. So far from losing voters he gained them.
He wasted no money. Unlike Burnham he agreed reform would fund it.
It is his opponents who wasted the money knowing they would lose.
