"Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love."
Anglicanism - the traditionally English expression of the Christian faith - is under threat. The Church of England has entered apostasy by approving the liturgical use of same-sex blessings. God does not bless sin, and instead of helping same-sex attracted Christians live a Biblical life in Christ, the CofE has decided to affirm all lifestyles and embrace sin. It is a great sadness that the wider Anglican Communion, through the Global South and GAFCON movement, has had to declare that the Church of England is now in impaired communion.
The original GAFCON (Global Anglicans Future Conference) in 2008 resulted in the Jerusalem Declaration, an explicit affirmation of orthodoxy. GAFCON conferences take place every five years, and it just so happens that the next conference, GAFCON IV 2023 takes place in Rwanda next month. Divine providence no doubt has a hand in the timing, which could not be more apt.
GAFCON IV will be of the utmost importance to Anglicans around the world as primates decide how to coordinate the Anglican Communion going forward. Should they elect a new first among equals? How will the Church of England and the Archbishop of Canterbury be recognised? What does it mean to be Anglican in the twenty-first century? How do we, as Anglicans, relate to our brothers and sisters in Christ in other denominations?
I have received an invitation to attend, but my humble parish church in one of the most deprived parts of London cannot afford to send me. Despite having a fairly high public profile, I do not make enough money to fund the journey - I am a self-supporting minister. I am turning to you, my brothers and sisters in Christ, for help to make this trip happen.
I understand times are hard, and for some, financial support may not be possible. Please don’t put yourself out, I do not expect, and I am not entitled to your hard-earned money. But if you are in a position to do so, I would be most grateful for what you may be able to provide to make this journey possible for me. For those who are unable to contribute financially, prayers would be greatly appreciated.
I believe in the primacy of Scripture and that the Bible contains everything necessary for salvation. 'All Scripture is God-breathed.' The secular world around us, especially in the West, is trying to convince us to forget our Christian values. I would like to be a part of the conversation that says no, we must stand firm in the faith. There is no Western society without Christianity, and there is no life without Christ.
Donations will cover flight, hotel and conference ticket fees. Any extra raised over the target amount will go directly to my parish ministry. I will keep you updated throughout.
As ever, I appreciate your encouragement and support. We are all soldiers in Christ.
God bless,
The Reverend Calvin Robinson
