Church Roof Fund

Let me share a story with you.

Around forty-five years ago, St Paul’s Church of Grand Rapids left The Episcopal Church, which was becoming increasingly liberal-progressive. After losing a lengthy and expensive legal battle to retain their building, they ended up remortgaging their family homes to build a new church, which is our current church on Lake Michigan Drive; this was completed in 1988. In 1995, they added a parish hall, and in 2013, they added the classroom facilities and other rooms. One of those new rooms is now our studio, where we record this very show from.

St Paul’s is a community that stepped out in faith. They stood firm for the teachings of the Church, rather than compromising with the world. You can find out more of the history of our church on our website, https://stpaulsgrandrapids.org/old-church.

Unfortunately, the roof has not been redone since then, and so, I know, it is a cliché, but our church roof is in dire need of being replaced. As you may know, these things only last twenty years or so. Forty if you double-shingle. But Michigan law says you cannot do more than two layers of shingles. And so, we have reached a point where our roofs must be redone.

This is a very big and expensive project, and so we are breaking it up into pieces.

The church (sanctuary building), the parish hall (fellowship hall), the classrooms, and the rectory all need new roofs. We would rather get the new roofs up before the rainwater starts leaking through.

This crowdfunding project will fund a new roof for the church and the priest’s house. We will work on the rest later.

Every penny donated will go to the roofs. And we are happy to provide updates as we go along. But we are asking for your help, as we cannot afford to do this on our own.

Amen, and Thank you.
