I understand Protestants are gonna protest. The clue is in the name :)

But this is a converation about the power and importance of prayer in saving the West and of ridding us of the grave evil of abortion.

I appreciate there are a couple of trigger words in the article that may affect prot sensibilities. I will publish another piece in a few days about Allhallowtide, in which we can have a theological debate about All Saints/All Souls/prayers for the faithful departed/pergatory, etc. But please do not offrail this thread with all of that.

Satan loves distraction, he is the father of chaos. Do not be an unwitting minion of his. Abortion is a great evil, praying for the nation is important, keep the conversation on topic. Thank you.

:) Us Protestants are reading a priest, I, at least, expect you to follow your denomination and not mine. I read you for the parts where we agree, not for the parts where we don't. And to learn more about what my brother has to say about our common Father. Thank you for your continual bold testimony of the truth no matter who may find it hard to hear.

Father Robinson, I am grateful that you were able to pray with Pres. Trump and that prayer is profoundly needed and we are not to stop. I have my own Prodigal history in fleeing from God for 35 years. Mom died overnight in my own youth, 1966, one brother killed in Vietnam in 1968. I broke with my Baptist church and wandered in sorrow and rebellion for a long time. God in His mercy did not stop calling me back. I personally had two abortions in 1973 and now write about the chaos and destruction of the sexual revolution. I agree that Satan is a master liar, as Christ called him the "father of lies." The Good Shepherd kept calling me and I finally came Home to my Christian faith. I fully repented, went from Pro-Choice to Pro-Life and speak about what I went through. I hesitate to jump in much to the arguments between Catholics and Protestants, as both sides have legitimate "beefs". Protests, yes, and some of them were needed via Martin Luther, regarding excesses he saw. Luther was far from perfect and suffered his own weaknesses, as every single one of us does. I am a woman of God and follower of Christ and I walk the narrow path every day, to the best of my ability. I am a member of a Foursquare Charismatic church and greatly value the narrow path with my dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ. Father Robinson, I value you as a Brother in Christ and hope you will not dismiss me because I am not Catholic. Same Bible, same faith, same God, same Mother of Christ, Mary, and same wonderful Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. We are all on the same team of God, in the spiritual warfare battle of all time right now. Let us support one another, please! I agree that abortion is a grave evil and too much used as birth control! I stay in heartfelt prayer daily, I keep my heart and spirit clear and repent quickly. I am in this battle with you. Sincere blessings to you, Wendy

Atheists and agnostics would start to find answers in peer-reviewed Near Death Experiences. Consciousness, intelligence, will, are all spiritual properties of the spiritual immortal soul. How do we know that? some of the blind from birth see in colors for the first time when they are brain dead (no electricity, no activity, no bloodflow, no oxygen) and also no heartbeat and no breathing. The same happens with some of the deaf: they listen for the first time to conversations around or if they go up, even celestial music!

“there are characteristic features that are commonly observed in NDEs. These characteristics include a perception of seeing and hearing apart from the physical body, passing into or through a tunnel, encountering a mystical light, intense and generally positive emotions, a review of part or all of their prior life experiences, encountering deceased loved ones, and a choice to return to their earthly life.”

"God is love" says the Bible, the Word of God (1 John 4:7-12) Do you believe in love? then you believe in God. How do you prove love to yourself? If you prove love, you prove God! There’s no love without God, the source of all true love. He’s not only the love of my life, He’s the life of my love!

Jesus said “I’m... the life.” (John 14:16)

“God gives life to everything.” (1 Timothy 6, 13)

Do you believe in life? You prove life, you prove God, eternal life, source of all life:

That is where you should start your journey of discovery, but first pray: "God, life of my love, if you exist, please show me the way to find the bliss of knowing You"

or even better:

Think this with your heart: “Jesus, if you are the Son of God, I consecrate my heart to your Heart. Please send me the Holy Spirit so I can see Truth and have the courage to convert and follow Him wherever He leads”

I believe with all my heart that the election was saved by prayer. I found the prayer published by Fr. Ripperger powerful and still say it, slightly altered to focus on the reality that our newly elected leaders will make the decisions needed to lead our country into the Light. Painfully, we see how easily Christian civilization has been damaged so terribly by the forces of doom and darkness in Europe.

We must continue to pray for our country and the end of abortion, which is at essence Satan's eucharist. Until we eradicate abortion America will remain on the precipice of our own destruction. We find ourselves in an era that makes the Crusades understandable.

God save America, the shining city on the hill.

Thank you Fr Robinson for commenting that ALL abortions are the taking the life of a child. Even rape and incest as evil as they are, if a child is produced - the baby should not be taken. I have always thought that the exclusion of rape and incest did not speak to the heart of the fact that a baby is a baby!

I think your point is hypocrisy for the same reason Jesus calls out the Pharisees above. You are focused on the law and not the love. Jesus spoke in poetic and beautiful language. He speaks in parables. It is his right to judge alone, not his church, who you should be well aware are very prone to the missteps of humanity. I will say no more on that subject.

A council of men have decided the point of view you refer to, a point which I have not refuted I must point out. My only point is that our salvation cannot rest upon such a point. Worship and ways of worship are there for a reason. We are not all, and cannot all, be called to the priesthood. Some of us must render unto Ceaser what is Ceaser’s and do not have a deep clerical understanding.

I was not born into the catholic faith through no fault of my own. I cannot believe an ever loving God who speaks repeatedly of the value of human life would allow his children to be damned to hell for misunderstanding the metaphysics of a gluten free wafer.

I agree 100% that it is your responsibility to explain why you believe what you believe and live is so important. But I do not believe it was Satan who split the church. I do not believe he has the power to do that. I believe it was the hand of the Lord spreading his message to a wider audience. We should unite around his message whilst holding dear the creed of our own tradition. That which speaks to our highest being. That which brings out the best in us and makes us want the best for all. Not petty specifics of the law. I believe my Anglican faith does this for me and I hope your catholic faith does this for you, even if I’m not feeling it from you right now.

I ask your blessing Father and forgive me if I aggrieved you. I have spoken out of turn at times but you can surely appreciate the depths of passion such a subject can evoke.

Professor,

Unfortunately I do not have time here to discuss the article, but it is a good one. Yes, I fully believe that Christ's Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity are present in the Eucharistic elements of bread and wine at the moment of the epiclesis. If that is not taught or confirmed in the church, then that church is fully heretical. To deny Christ in the Eucharist is damnable.

Father,

I'm sorry but I couldn't read this and not comment. You Sir are preaching like a Pharisee. To say that someone who embodies the teachings of Christ, who loves God with all his heart and regularly worships Him wholeheartedly is damned to eternal hellfire for not believing an obscure notion of the Catholic Church is not becoming of a man of God.

Yes, cling to your belief and understanding. Yes, teach people to fear God but not for this. Teach them to fear God for not believing in him, for worshiping false idols, for taking His name in vain (which I fear you are dangerously close to doing here) but not for doctrinal complexities. This is the sort of thing which damages the Church far more than any atheist could ever get close to.

I am unsure of how the Eucharist operates if I am honest. I don't feel it is important to know. I do know how it makes me feel. If that is the actual body and blood of Christ, great. If it isn't, so be it. I welcome in The Lord whether through a wafer and wine or spiritually through my heart. He is with me and I am for him. I highly doubt He created this world for us to then condemn us because we misunderstood wafers!

Please have a think how your comments are actually affecting your mission. It's fine to believe as you do, it is very important to maintain the doctrine and letter of your church teachings, I get that. But to openly condemn (literally to Hell) others who want the same thing as you and worship the same Lord as you with all their heart is NOT any teaching I have read in the Gospel.

I'm sorry if this sounds angry and I do not mean to be disrespectful. I have great respect for the Catholic Church. I am at this moment heading in the possible direction of conversion. It's too early to tell. But comments like this do not help in any way shape or form. I wish you all the best.

At issue is that they worship a lie perpetuated by ignorant men. In Jesus' great Bread of Life discourse found in John 6, Jesus clearly states, "Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you." Therefore, to deny that the Eucharist is truly the Body and Blood of Jesus is to truly deny Christ, and the punishment for such willful ignorance is eternal damnation. The fact that you say it isn't important for you to understand or know how the Eucharist "operates" is a clear indication of your willful ignorance. May God have mercy on your soul!

What I have posted is posted in all Spirit and in Truth, not in any way hypocritical. Please prove that I am being hypocritical in any way. I speak the full and undiluted Truth that was given to us by Christ in St. John 6. What Christ says is of the utmost importance to us for our Salvation. If you are unwilling to hear Christ's Words in St. John which were spoken by Him specifically for our Salvation, and put them in your heart, then your heart is truly far from Him and your soul is not fine. There is no Life in you. How is that ANY precept of man? When you you receive the Consecrated Eucharist with your whole heart, you are engaging in, and receiving the full source and summit of our faith! You call me a hypocrite who is teaching the precepts of men, prove it! The fact remains that you cannot, for in doing so you refute the very words spoke by our Lord; and He is the Way, the Truth and the Life!

John 6 is a good reference for that.

On the other hand, I have observed more than a few felicitous inconsistencies in Christians within American 'evangelical' (and other) churches.

Do you think that God is merciful of their ignorance (and not willful denial) of what the Eucharist is?

Bryan, I would also like to add that the ignorance that is rampant in the Church is the responsibility of those who claim to be pastors, teachers, prophets, and leaders. They are walking willfully in their ignorance and teachings. For them they have a much greater judgment for leading the flock of God far astray.

Bryan, I encourage you to go to Jesus in prayer and ask Him. In the meantime, do not stay willfully ignorant, but go and increase in the knowledge and will of God through Scripture, reason, and the deeply rich tradition of the Church. It is there that you will find answers to the questions you ask. Ask, seek, and knock. Don't just stand idle and ignorant.

I love your work Father Calvin. I have a question about praying for the souls of the dead (I come from a CofE perspective, though my church is Anglo Catholic and we do pray for the dead during Mass). I’ve always found it odd and perhaps questioning of God’s judgement and authority. Because either these souls are in paradise with Him or they are not, because they have been judged by Him not to be worthy of such - how would our prayers make any difference? And should we not accept that He knows best?

Fr. Robinson:

Banning abortion nationally is not unconstitutional. Nowhere does the constitution state the right to kill. In fact it has the right to life.

Giving states the decision of being an abortion state or a life state is no solution; just as “states rights” regarding slavery was no solution. Banning slavery had to be nationwide.

Abortion should be illegal nationwide, too.

Expand full comment

Abortion is a type of slavery. The very definition of a "slave", is a living human being that is considered a disposable thing.

It should be illegal, just considering the 13th amendment:

6 Dec 1865. The third 13th Amendment:

“Section 1. Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.”

It was ratified by the required ¾ of the states (27 of the then 36), being the last ones:

• Texas: February 18, 1870

• Delaware: February 12, 1901 (after rejection February 8, 1865)

• Kentucky: March 18, 1976 (after rejection February 24, 1865)

• Mississippi: March 16, 1995 (after rejection December 5, 1865; not certified until February 7, 2013 !!!) 1

The Amendment put a “formal” end to slavery. After many new laws and Supreme Court rulings, it took over a hundred years to really abolish it.

The 13th Amendment was invoked by the 1968 Jones v. Alfred H. Mayer Co. precedent2, used to justify Congressional action against sex trafficking (an example of slavery where a human being is treated like a thing).

Yet, in spite of being used in litigation against discrimination and involuntary servitude3, there seems to be no case invoking the 13th, defending the unborn baby against abortion, even if the definition of abortion matches the very defitinion of slavery, by considering a living human being as a disposable thing.

Also, there seems to be no lawsuit challenging general lockdowns and mandated vaccination which invoked the 13th, in spite that those “countermeasures” turn a human being into a disposable thing, a slave!

Isn’t death penalty a case of slavery, by treating a prisoner as a disposable thing?

Isn’t imprisonment for tax-evasion proving that taxes are in fact a form of forced indentured slavery, where the slave never signed an indenture?

I'll post a bombshell about all this, soon
