Beautifully written, gets right to the point, and elucidates why we experience so much deep sorrow watching Evil dismantle such a great country. Civilization takes strong leaders generations to build, and can dissolve in just a few decades.
Thank God for Britain, for their historic efforts to civilize the World. Some see those efforts as wrong and Evil, but step back and you will understand the Good done, at great cost. Imagine the World without Britain and you will shudder.
I truly believe that the British people, where my roots are, will wake up over the next 5 years and begin to push back, change laws and elect upright leaders who are full of Christian love, charity and culture. William will be a strong, upright leader as was his grandmother. God save the King.
Father Calvin Robinson again you say clearly all that we need to know and practice in a down to earth simple clear way easy to understand with common sense behind And I’ve found in life God and all that Jesus Christ God says is common sense though often very deep as well It’s really good to hear you bringing hope into Britain in your words I’ve been feeling very negative recently with everything happening in this country though I’m clinging to Jesus God and also following the song One day at a time sweet Jesus to live my life and not fear too much about the future Thank you 🙏 again for the positive words and encouragement you write it really helps and makes one consider more than just what we hear on the media etc XGod blessx and keep you safe and hope all goes well with your plans and life
Bravo, Father. Let's all take your words to heart and focus on creating a future based in Christian values and modeled on the example set by Jesus Christ. 🙏🏻❤️✝️
Yeah I guess we're all feeling a little deflated over here .....but reading your words makes me think & smile . Right I'm going to my own bit of good old British nostalgia , a few episodes of Duck Emery will do the trick 😊🤣
Thank you Father. As it strikes me, Britain and the Anglosphere and especially the US are unique in Christendom and distinct from the European continental West. I am English and proud of it and I moved to the USA to contribute to the preservation of the English/American culture. I am Catholic and now naturalised American. All have their roots in preReformation English society and Catholicism in my opinion
I'm fascinated by what is a fact, the Irish Christianity which existed for hundreds of years before the Reformation. I know nothing about it except St Patrick. Can you suggest any books?
Paul Kingsnorth would be the author to look into. If you listen to some of his material online he tells interesting stories about the church in Ireland.
Some of his Substack articles are about Irish Holy Wells - which I didn’t know was a thing until I started listening to his stories. I think he’s coming out with a book this year about this topic (Irish Catholicism), but I could be mistaken. The Abbey of Misrule is his Substack.
I’ve caught a few interviews here and there and his stories are really good.
Thankyou Fr. Calvin. You've really said it all here and put it in Christian context. I'm sure you are a great blessing to your congregation. God bless you.
Great Britain gave us so many many things like the Magna Carta. One only has to look at what they did in India with stopping suttee, the transportation they put in, the educational system, etc. I am sorely disappointed in what is happening now with your current marxist leaders. I hope the country will return to greatness.
It just occured to me to add to my previous comment. I agree wholeheartedly, that the values that inform the British (and American ) way of life arise from Natural Law and revealed in perfection in the 10 commandments. The way in which those values are transmitted historically is through the praying of the Psalms, the book in scripture that contains all of theology (St Thomas said). The characteristic graced imagination and creativity of the British and subsequently American societies persisted beyond the Reformation through the Coverdale Psalter in the book of common prayer across so much of that society. Andrew Breitbart said famously that culture is downstream of politics. That is correct but he was a liberal who didn't go far enough. We should add that faith is downstream of culture and worship is downstream of faith. Lex orandi lex credendi is the principle here. (Rule of prayer, rule of faith). Christians should pray the psalms together again, if we want to save the nation in the long term. This is a task of evangelization through demonstrated Christian faith.
What an inspiring article highlighting our values in a biblical way. The Church needs to take her place in the society and be the light as per our calling. Poignant reminder of our identity. Btw Just about to publish my latest book titled “Crisis of Identity” and if you like I’ll post a copy to once it’s published.
Thank you, Fr. Calvin - this is the greatest treatise written about Britain! Truly, England is the centerpiece of our Western Civilization, even much greater than America, because of its long-standing history, as you have so clearly stated; and as England goes, so goes the world (that's why things are falling apart in Europe and the West). Now, to get your Homeland back on track, we must move from strength to strength. Surely, there must be a majority in England that believe the family is the "nuclear core" of society and that majority is in the many churches that believe this. If someone could contact the Pastors there and have them obtain lists of people from their congregations that believe marriage is only between a man and a woman; thousands and millions of names (with addresses and emails) could be obtained and then taken to your Parliament. This would be a great movement and show of Biblical strength that could not be denied. Once that is presented to Parliament (showing the lists of names from all the churches) as a confirming catalyst, then further follow-up comes from foreign outside Christian speakers coming in from different countries (who believe and articulate the same thing) in an ever- widening show of strength to the nation which will impact Western Civilization at its core. This approach is very simple but very powerful as it represents the people speaking! And it is very easy for the English Pastors to obtain the lists of people as they get people to sign-up after Sunday services. It just takes a little organizing. BA - Stanford University 1959, MTH Fuller Seminary 1976,
Stanton how do you view the situation of Ireland, historically, related to England (or Britain, whatever you choose to describe it)? How do you view Britain's colonization of places in Africa and India? The USA shares the same faults I am pointing to, and even more so regarding slavery. Yes, Great Britain has had an enormous and valuable impact on world history and western civilization. But you are advocating for something that I think is impractical. Kudos to you for the education you apparently received in the USA, why not in Great Britain? The USA, where I live, is a great country but obviously subject to egregious failures regarding Christian values. We not only elected Trump once, but now, inexplicably, to a second term. Trump is of course a narcissist and an isolationist, along with being a convicted felon, which does not serve our global community at all. Empires rise and fall,
What a good read ! I’ve thoroughly enjoyed being reminded of how I was brought up to live and how the world has veered away from the beautiful image I have in my mind of my childhood. How things have changed in the 71 years I’ve been on this planet, it’s a completely different way of life in so many ways. I was born when people were rebuilding after WW2, a time when people were pulling together and there was an optimism that seems to be lost now. We didn’t have much but we had each other and weren’t craving the newest or best. This week, my husband of 51 years and I have bought our first ever Brand New Settees ! We’ve been very happy for all those years with ones other people have lovingly cared for but got tired off, it’s in out psyche to make the best of everything, to look forward to a better time when things will be better. It’s increasingly hard to foresee a time in the near future now when things will be better when we hear of stabbings and rapes on a daily basis, there doesn’t seem to be anybody listening when we try to say ‘help’ ! As a foster carer I saw what was happening to young girls in the care of Social Services. I ‘told’ people higher up the chain who said nobody will listen and you’ll be sacked if you push this. Finally now it is coming to the fore but this is an example of how corrupt and unjust society has become. Everything seems to be about climbing to the top of the tree to look down on others less fortunate. Social Workers wanting to be managers so the carers can take the flack is an example.
I hear many people of my generation say they’re glad they’re nearing the end of life not at the beginning and are worried for the future for their grandchildren as I am.
I went to the Baptist Chapel every Sunday morning as a child until I was the only young person going, I passed the collection box to the elderly lady sat next to me and she passed it back to me. The Chapel was pulled down not long after. Our daughter, who we lost to Covid aged 46, used to run Messy Church near where she lived and brought our granddaughters up to live in a similar vein to us. My Dad would say it needs a war to make people pull together and as I see it we are certainly heading towards Civil War.
They have no leadership. None. Name one contemporary English political leader whom you can take seriously. And my sense is that the English have nothing like the alternative news media which Americans have; American alternative news media seems to be 75% of English alternative news media. The United States in electing Trump reciprocated the delight which the English gave the United States in winning The Battle of Britain, in 1940.
I'm impressed by everything I have seen Winston Marshall say. His bouncing Nancy Pelosi like a basketball at Oxford was one of the great aesthetic joys of my lifetime.
Winston Marshall, Douglas Murray, Calvin Robinson, currently in exile, and then who?
Don’t underestimate the British when they get going. However they must rediscover themselves. The migrants issue will be central, and overturning the embedded wokeness in institutions. Very daunting task
I forgot about Tousi. He has panache. I'm not sure how he feels about courting the possibility of assassination. Are you English? What do you think about Tommy Robinson? I didn't mention him because he seems to be The Unmentionable. I like him a lot. I can't take Farage seriously, which is why I didn't bring him up.
Irish people would beg to differ from your opinion of the British Empire. During the genocide, known as the Famine, when the British Army protected thousand of tons of food being shipped from every port while a million people starved to death, or took the coffin ships to America. For the starving peasants who were evicted for non payment of rents to British landlords who had stolen their ancestral lands, it must have been difficult to appreciate the benefits belonging to the Empire on which the sun never set.
I'm all for credit and condemnation when each is due.
The world is probably a better place for Britain. I can't begin to imagine what a Spanish-backed theocracy or Stalinist or Nazi led world would resemble - other than bad.
I has however lost its way. Only its citizens can rescue it.
I enjoyed the positive article but I have a question for the comments section that has nothing to do with the thread: Can someone tell me what a Seventh-Day Adventist is?
I'm aware Google exists but I prefer real, knowledgeble people be my reference, instead of Google, especially for religious topics where it's either biased or nonsensical (Make Your Community Your Google Again) and I know the good people of Father Robinson's comments section will be able to guide me!

Trump is God's choice - right man for the job!"
Be careful idolising men.
Be interesting to see if or how he can bring about Middle East or world peace?
Do you think he can do it?
What would that resemble?
Trump is not a globalist✔️
Trump agrees with the Bible about the basic concept of there being only 2 sexes✔️
Trump says he is there to serve Americans, not every other country except America✔️
I don't think the race to the White House is a personality contest.
He is awake to the fact that Wokism is eroding society and not in any way enhancing it. ✔️
